Skiing – alpine

The local resort at Praz-sur-Arly gives you access to 97 runs and links to the much larger ski area of the Espace Diamant, with 157 runs and 192 km of slopes, ranging from 1000m to over 2070m in altitude. In the height of the season there is no need to go elsewhere, no matter what your ability. The area consists of a range of pistes, covering a variety of terrains at varying levels of difficulty, including green runs for beginners.

A day’s ski pass for an adult ranges from €20-40 depending on the time of day, the time of year and what options you choose. Exact costs can be found at www.prazsurarly.com

The ESF (French ski-school) operates here, teaching individuals or groups in both French and English. Visit www.esf-prazsurarly.com for up-to-date costs and contact info.

The local ski-hire shop, Derby Sports, stocks a full range of ski and snowboard equipment. They give an excellent personal service.

Sports centre – swimming and ice skating

During the winter season, professional ice hockey games take place at the patinoire. During the height of the ski season, as long as it is cold enough, an outdoor ice rink in the centre of Megeve is also open. Skates can be hired at both venues.
